What are Chakras?

Chakras are the seven energy centers of the body. They are connected to our organs, bones, flesh and nervous system. Balancing our energetic body is just as essential as creating balance in every other area of our lives. When our seven chakras are balanced, we live a prime life here on earth as human beings.

What Are the Colors of the Chakras?

Each chakra is associated with a specific color because of its vibration. The chakra colors are helpful to know in order to select the best tool to balance our chakras. Here are the seven chakras and colors starting at the top:

  • Crown Chakra: Purple or Violet
  • Third Eye Chakra: Indigo
  • Throat Chakra: Blue
  • Heart Chakra: Green
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: Yellow
  • Sacral Chakra: Orange
  • Root Chakra: Red

Balancing Your Chakras

Our chakras get out of balance from daily life and not necessarily because something is wrong, so do not worry about it, it can be very simple and easy to get back into balance..

If you want to balance your system, it can be better to focus on the chakras independently. It does help to expedite the healing and balancing process as opposed to overwhelming your mind and self. There are many ways to balance your chakras at home. These include using chakra balancing tools such as color therapy, food, clothing, surroundings, affirmations, meditation, visualization, crystals, essential oils, and even dancing. Dancing shifts energy everywhere in your body. While dancing, make sure your mind is aligned with your intentions. You can use or merge all of these tools as you wish.

Balancing Your Crown Chakra

Food: Associated with purple you can start by simply and intentionally eating purple foods such as eggplant, grapes, onions, figs, or bell peppers.

Clothing: Wear purple clothing, earrings, jackets, shoes, hats, or bags. Visual Surroundings: Use color therapy, purple glass lenses, or add purple décor to your home.

Energetic surroundings: What are the things around you that unbalance your crown chakra? Is there anyone in your surroundings that makes fun of or discredits your spiritual beliefs or who causes you to question your spirituality? Is there anything that is holding you back from connecting to your higher self? Think about it and assess these things, if any.

Affirmations: Affirmations are amazing because speaking them out loud creates a vibration and the universe responds to that vibration since everything is energy. Some affirmations for the crown chakra could be: I am connected with my higher self, I am connected to the spiritual realm, I am proud of my spirituality, I am thinking with my higher being, or whatever makes you feel good and resonates with you.

Visualization: Visualization is fun because it is like daydreaming and again the universe responds to the vibrations and thoughts that we put out. If you are using visualization for balancing the crown chakra, you can see yourself having amazing meditations, connecting with the spiritual realm, having beautiful talks with your higher self, making decisions that are elevating, or using your mind for a higher purpose.

Crystals: Crystals come from the earth in all beautiful colors. For the crown chakra, you would look for purple crystals like amethyst and lepidolite. Make sure they are natural ones and not transformed by a manufacturer.

Essential Oil: The fragrance associated with the crown chakra is frankincense. You can put the essential oil in a diffuser and let it fill the room with its scent.

Balancing Your Third Eye Chakra

Food: Associated with indigo, you can eat blue food such as blueberries, blackberries, grapes, blue corn, blue carrots, etc.

Clothing: Wear indigo or deep blue clothing, earrings, jackets, shoes, hats, or bags.

Visual Surroundings: Try indigo-colored glasses, change your decor, or add a deep blue pillow or couch blanket.

Energetic surroundings: Listen to your intuition and do not let your ego get in the way. And when you do, reward yourself.

Affirmations: Use affirmations like: I see what is good for me, My intuition guides me to my best self.

Visualization: If you are using visualization for balancing the third eye chakra, you can visualize indigo pouring through your third eye and your third eye opening. You can also draw a third eye picture.

Crystals: For the third eye chakra, use blue crystals like Lapis or sodalite.

Essential Oil: Use essential oils like rosemary, basil, patchouli, vetiver and jasmine.

Balancing Your Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is associated with a lighter blue than the indigo for the third eye chakra.

Food: Associated with blue, again you can simply eat blue foods.

Clothing: Wear lighter blue clothing, earrings, jackets, shoes, hats, or bags.

Visual Surroundings: Use color therapy, blue glass lenses, or blue decor.

Energetic surroundings: One amazing way to open your throat chakra is to sing, it doesn't matter what or how you sing, just having the vibration come from your diaphragm up to your chest, through your throat and out will help open and heal your throat chakra. Another way to balance it would be to be open and honest about what you want, if there are things that are bothering you, speak up, in a loving way, but be clear about the things that you want.

Affirmations: Affirm things like: I speak my truth, I feel empowered when I say what I want.

Meditation: Look online for a meditation video that is specifically for the throat chakra.

Visualization: If you are using visualization for balancing the throat chakra, you can visualize a blue light filling your throat and allowing you to be honest with yourself and speak your truth in love.

Crystals: The crystals for the throat chakra would be lighter blue ones like aquamarine and turquoise.

Essential Oil: Essential oils are lavender, sage and neroli.

Balancing Your Heart Chakra

Food: Since it is associated with green there is a lot of good food you can eat like kale, green apple, green beans, broccoli, and kiwi.

Clothing: Wear some beautiful green pants, a green hat, jacket or scarf.

Visual Surroundings: Wear green color therapy lenses, or add a splash of green to your decor at home. Plants are great for this.

Energetic surroundings: The heart chakra is related to our ability to love and be loved so it all starts with you. You can integrate more self-love practices like taking a long bath, getting a new hairstyle, taking care of your body, spending time with people you love, telling them you love them, and being gentle to others, even if they are rude — act from your higher self and show them love because you don't know what is causing them to act that way.

Affirmations: In your affirmations, you could say: I am loved, I love love, I love how love feels.

Meditation: Look online for a meditation video that is specifically for the heart chakra.

Visualization: You can place your hands over the center of your chest and visualize an emerald green light filling your heart and radiating through the rest of your body and then sending that green light of love out into the world.

Crystals: Emerald and green crystals are associated with the heart chakra. Also, rose quartz, which is not a green crystal but is also associated with healing the heart.

Essential Oil: Essential oils are rose, romantic and full of love, and bergamot oil.

Balancing Your Solar Plexus Chakra

Food: You can eat more yellow foods such as corn, lemons, bananas, peppers, chamomile tea, etc.

Clothing: Some people do not enjoy wearing yellow clothes and if this is you, be creative and try a yellow bag or even a yellow flower in your hair.

Visual Surroundings: A good way to balance the solar plexus is to get out and get some sun. Also, add a splash of yellow to your home and surroundings.

Energetic surroundings: The solar plexus represents our confidence, thoughts, feelings and ability to have control over our lives. Watch how you speak to yourself, look at yourself in the mirror and compliment yourself.

Affirmations: Some affirmations for the solar plexus can be: I am powerful, I am worthy, My life has divine purpose.

Meditation: Look online for a meditation video that is specifically for the solar plexus chakra. Visualization: Visualize yourself soaking up the bright yellow energy of the sun and then walking through a field of bright yellow flowers.

Crystals: Crystals that help are tiger's eye, amber and citrine. These are not bright yellow but their energy is known for helping heal the solar plexus chakra.

Essential Oil: Chamomile is a beautiful yellow and is a great essential oil to help with the solar plexus chakra. Lemon is also a good choice.

Balancing Your Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is represented by the color orange and is associated with our creativity, sexuality and relationships.

Food: You can eat orange foods such as oranges, bell peppers, carrots, curries etc.

Clothing: Go on a date with your partner wearing a nice orange shirt or other item of clothing.

Visual Surroundings: In order to balance this chakra you can do some painting or coloring, shut out your limiting thoughts and just have fun. You can do these exercises dressed in orange, using orange colors.

Energetic surroundings: This is a chakra for our connections and relationships, so this is where you need to be very honest with yourself. Is a relationship toxic, whether romantic or platonic? If so, assess it and deal with it quickly because if you are in a toxic relationship, even with a family member, your sacral chakra won't be able to balance itself. And that can mean that you may have to distance yourself from the person who is not serving you well. Masturbation is also a very nice way to open up; it can help you with your relationship with sex, exploring your body and what makes you feel good. It will not only help you in your physical relationship but also in your mental and energetic relationships.

Affirmations: Some affirmations for the sacral chakra could be: I attract people who treat me with respect, I enjoy all the pleasures in life, I am creative, I embrace my physical body.

Visualization: You can visualize yourself feeling empowered in your creativity, your sex, and your relationships.

Crystals: Crystals that will help are moonstone and carnelian.

Essential Oil: Essential oils would be ylang ylang and sandalwood.

Balancing Your Root Chakra

Located at the base of the spine, it is called the root chakra because it represents that feeling of being rooted, grounded, and strong. It also represents your foundation and stability.

Food: Associated with red so you can eat raspberries, cherries, strawberries, tomatoes, beetroot, and drink red wine.

Clothing: Wear red clothing and some red lipstick.

Visual Surroundings: Add a bit of red to your bedroom, and some beautiful red roses in your house.

Energetic surroundings: One way to balance your root chakra is to get barefoot and get on the earth because the earth has electrons and neurons that are always pulsing in the soil. The earth is alive, it is active and vibrating. When we put our feet on earth it can charge us literally like a battery. So get out there and don't be afraid to get dirty and take your shoes off, let that electricity flow through you. Dancing is also a good exercise to balance your root chakra because you can really move that energy by moving your pelvis, hips and bottom.

Visualization: If you are using visualization for balancing the root chakra, you can see yourself standing on the earth and growing roots deep into the soil. Visualize feeling safe and strong.

Crystals: Crystals for the root chakra are ruby, bloodstone, garnet, and smoky quartz.

Essential Oil: Essential oils are clove, myrrh, and cedar.


Chakra alignment can play an important role in our overall mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Releasing blocked energies by balancing our chakras helps the free flow of life energy which creates harmony and balance, and restores vitality to the mind and body, thereby enhancing our lives. When the flow of energy is blocked, our bodies cannot function properly. Balancing your chakras can assist with your overall physical health and the ability to heal from disease or injury.
